The Jaguars have been linked to just about every one of the top prospects in this years draft at some point or another. And yes, they've been known to create a smoke screen or two, but the Jaguars newly reported interest in Solomon Thomas might just be legit.
According to Matt Miller of Bleacher Report and his scouting sources the Jaguars are big fans of Thomas: I continue to hear from scouts that the Jacksonville Jaguars really like him if he's there at pick No. 4. Thomas, a redshirt sophomore entry, has shot from a potential top-15 player to what seems like a lock in the top five.
Thomas does fit within the principals of what the Jaguars are trying to do on the defensive side of the ball and with the team as a whole. Tom Coughlin has been adamant about improving the line of scrimmage and adding Solomon Thomas would do just that.

My biggest concern with Thomas isn't his scheme fit, but the amount of impact that he will have on the 2017 season. In college he played a TON of 3 technique which is something that Malik Jackson and Calais Campbell excel at. So, while Thomas might have the best career of any player in this years draft it might be hard for him to make a major impact playing behind Calais Campbell and Malik Jackson while also competing with the rest of the Jaguars talented defensive front to get on the field. While this wouldn't deter me from selecting Thomas I do have a sneaky suspicion that it could impact the Jaguars decision making process. The team appears to be in full win now mode and may take the player that has the best combination of long term potential and the ability to make an immediate impact.
Still Campbell is an aging veteran and drafting his potential replacement would show a great deal of foresight from this front office. Their selection come draft day, in my opinion, will show just how desperate the Jaguars are to win in 2017. If they go for a running back with the fourth overall pick while either Solomon Thomas or Jonathan Allen are still on the board it will show that the team feels they must win now. While all this is great there's a solid chance Thomas nor Allen will be available for the Jaguars when they select at four. In that case a running back or maybe even the top tight end prospect OJ Howard could come into play. Follow Jordan de Lugo on Twitter
