The Jaguars, for the most part, have avoided major injuries throughout the offseason and training camp. Their only major season ending injury was to long snapper Carson Tinker. But there are a few players that are battling through minor injuries this week.
Dede Westbrook, who has been dealing with a core muscle injury, has been in and out of the lineup as of late. He's been ruled out for the Jaguars matchup with the Texans on Sunday. Without Westbrook in the lineup undrafted rookie Keelan Cole may get some real playing time in this one. Fortunately for the Jaguars, Westbrook is the only player who's been ruled out. Running back TJ Yeldon has been battling a hamstring injury and is questionable. Safety Tashaun Gipson joins him as the only other Jaguar listed as questionable. Gipson is dealing with a minor ankle sprain. If Yeldon can't go then Leonard Fournette will likely add third down back to his list of duties on Sunday. Corey Grant is too small to take on incoming pass rushers as a blocker, while Chris Ivory often struggles to get in front of incoming pass rushers. Fournette looks to be the best third down option for the Jaguars. If Tashaun Gipson can't play then backup free safety Peyton Thompson will be forced into the starting lineup. Thompson is a quality back up and excellent special teamer. If he's forced to start it could limit his effectiveness as a special teams gunner, and it will most certainly add some extra pressure to the rest of the Jaguars secondary, because while Thompson is a nice backup, he's not the starter for a reason.
