Only one thought today; Only one pertinent topic
The Jaguars Should Take ... We are two days away from the 2022 NFL Draft, so I will make this one short and sweet for you guys as there is only one thing on my mind right now. That thing, folks, is the number one overall pick. What are the Jaguars going to do?? Hell, it looks like they don't even know. I hope that's not the case, but come Thursday, April 28th, at 8 pm (give or take as they will undoubtedly take the ENTIRE clock to pick), the Jacksonville Jaguars SHOULD select Aidan Hutchinson out of the University of Michigan. I say they should because given the details surrounding it, I have settled on this being the best pick at this point. It looks like there are three possibilities. I know Trent Baalke said they've narrowed it down to four prospects, but reports have also confirmed that owner Shad Khan wants Hutch, GM Trent Baalke wants Travon Walker, and first-year head coach Doug Pederson wants Ickey Ekwonu. Who else could possibly have a say?! I still think Evan Neal is the home run here, and if the Jaguars were going to go offensive line at one, it would have to be a player that will be a long time tackle, even if they play guard for their rookie season while the Jaguars still have Cam Robinson on the roster (is there a long term extension imminent? I don't know). I don't think I value Ickey as a career tackle. Therefore, drafting a guard with the first overall pick is, unfortunately, horrible value. So now you look at Hutch vs. Walker. I have gone back and forth over the past few weeks on this. I agree that Hutchinson is the best pure pass rusher here, but I'm also convinced that while Walker may not be able to come in with a polished pass rush, he can affect the game in ways that Hutch cannot. What would it take to turn Travon Walker into a complete EDGE guy? I'm not sure, but I do not have confidence in this organization as things stand now to give them the keys to Pandora's box. The nail in the coffin for me is the fact that the Jaguars need to position themselves to win now. This is paramount, and because of this, Hutch has to go at number one. Follow Jeremy on Twitter. |
