Today the Jaguars most bitter rival, the Tennessee Titans, fired head coach Mike Mularkey.
Mularkey spent the better part of three years as the head coach of the Titans resulting in a 20-21 record for the Titans and one playoff win. That lone playoff win did come just a week ago in Kansas City as the Titans rallied in the second half behind Marcus Mariota and Derrick Henry to take down the Chiefs 22-21. Despite the Titans recent success many, including myself, felt throughout the season that the Titans would do best to move on from Mularkey after 2017. The Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk said in a statement released by the team "It became evident that we saw different paths to achieve greater success". Mularkey and his Titans went 2-0 against the Jaguars this year. He also served as the Jaguars head coach in 2012 for one season before being given the axe thanks to a 2-14 record. Mike should have no problem getting back on his feet in the NFL. If he chooses to come back to coaching immediately he should be able to lock down an offensive assistant position or perhaps even an offensive coordinator job somewhere. For the Titans it's not yet clear who they will target to be their next head coach. Stay tuned for more. Follow Jordan de Lugo on Twitter. |
