One thing is plain to see: being a Jaguar isn't in Yannick Ngakoue's plan. From his tweet earlier this offseason stating that he no longer has any interest in signing a long term deal with the Jaguars, to his constant posting about former Eagles' pass rushers and his desire to eat Philly cheesesteaks, it's crystal clear that Yan wants out of Jacksonville.
But based on the idea that the Jaguars had not engaged in formal trade talks (as of last week) regarding Yannick Ngakoue, per Mike Kaye, it's fair to ask the question: do the Jaguars have any desire to trade Yannick Ngakoue? Or is he still in the Jaguars' plans for the 2020 season? If the Jaguars do have plans to trade Ngakoue, they're doing a good job hiding it. Last week on Jaguars Happy Hour, Doug Marrone mentioned Yannick Ngakoue when talking about the pass rushers on the team for the 2020 season. Today, on Yannick Ngakaoue's 25th birthday, Mike Garafolo reported that several teams had reached out to the Jaguars about the availability of Yannick Ngakoue. But according to Garafolo, the Jaguars haven't received the type of offer that has moved the needle for them. Ngakoue later quote tweeted Garafolo's report:
When Doug Marrone was asked on a conference call with local media about the Ngakoue situation, he said: "you always want your players happy." Ngakoue doesn't want to be in Jacksonville, but the Jaguars aren't going to take a low ball offer for a Pro-Bowl caliber pass rusher. The coronavirus surely isn't helping negotiations, if there are any. Still, the Jaguars should recognize the reality of the situation they're in and do their best to move Ngakoue before the draft so that they can add talent this year in exchange for their star edge rusher. At the very latest, the Jaguars will need to deal Ngakoue before mid-July. July 15th is the final day to sign a player under the franchise tag to a new contract. Surely whichever team Ngakoue ends up with will want the opportunity to sign him to a long term deal before the 2020 season. What will the Jaguars get in compensation for Ngakoue? There are mixed opinions around the league on that topic.
