The Jaguars have traded long time place kicker, Josh Scobee, to the Pittsburgh Steelers. While some speculated that Scobee would be replaced in the near future, most did not anticipate that he would be traded to one of the Jacksonville’s fiercest rivals. Scobee has provided the Jaguars and their fans with many spectacular moments including a game winning 53 yard field goal against the Colts in front of a raucous home crowd. Scobee, is an obvious fan favorite and many will be extremely upset about this roster move. Not only was he an awesome and reliable player on the field, but his quick wit and incredible golf game made him a favorite off the field, too. Scobee is the Jaguar’s all time leading scorer by a wide margin. However, Scobee was going into the last year of his contract and the Jaguars has to make a decision. The Scobee era is over in Jacksonville.
With the end of one era, so too will another era begin. Insert, Jason Meyers, the rookie out of Marist. While Meyers is unproven compared to Scobee, he has gone 4-5 this preseason, with a 55 yard kick on his resume. This is not the move that fans want, but it is a move that makes sense for the team.
