The former Kansas City Chief and two time Pro Bowler Dontari Poe is meeting with the Jaguars. As first reported by Josina Anderson free agent Dontari Poe is meeting with the Jaguars and apparently will meet with the team on Monday.
The Jaguars already added defensive lineman Calais Campbell via free agency, who will play on the edge in base situations and on the inside for nickel packages and re-signed ascending nose tackle Abry Jones. Now, word has come out the Dontari Poe is visiting with the Jaguars. Poe plays the same position on the defensive line as Jones, so the Jaguars may be far from the actual defensive line that they deploy in early September. Needless to say this meeting raises a few questions.
Poe, who will turn 27 before the start of the 2017 regular season, has been a key cog in the defensive machine that has been the Kansas City Chiefs over the last several years. Now, hitting the free agent market Poe is looking for a nice pay day, as he should be. The two time Pro Bowler is coming off a couple of seasons that saw his sack numbers greatly decline after a 2013 and 2014 that saw Poe put up Pro Bowl numbers. While he may not be the major interior pass rush threat that he once was the 27 year old Poe still would be an upgrade for the Jaguars defensive line and defense as a whole. Stay tuned for more!
