According to a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, teams are contacting the Jaguars to inquire about the availability of 28-year-old free safety Tashaun Gipson. Gipson has performed at a high level since joining the Jaguars in 2016, but he's due over $9 million in 2019 and the Jaguars are trying to crunch the cap in order to acquire more offensive talent for 2019, while also focusing on signing Jalen Ramsey, Yannick Ngakoue, and Myles Jack to long term deals in the coming years. If Gipson is, in fact, available, the Jaguars could try to find a cheaper option in free agency or the draft. They could also stand pat if Gipson is moved as they have three safeties they feel good about in Ronnie Harrison, Jarrod Wilson, and Cody Davis.
If Gipson does still around in Jacksonville, they could attempt to restructure his contract, saving the team some cap space in 2019. At just 28, Gip still has some solid years in front of him.
