The Jaguars head into week seven as they prepare to take on the Indianapolis Colts. Their AFC South division rival sits at the bottom of the division, while the Jaguars are tied for the division lead. This is a divisional matchup that the Jaguars desperately need to win, especially after a disappointing home loss to the Rams in week six.
The Jaguars have three starters listed as questionable and one that has already been ruled out. The team's starting center Brandon Linder will miss his third straight game with an unspecified illness. His backup Tyler Shatley has performed well in Linder's absence, but will face another tough test this weekend. Johnathan Hankins and Al Woods combine to make a formidable interior for the Colts defense. They aren't at the level of the combination that Shatley faced last week (Aaron Donald and Michael Brockers), but they present a challenge. The Jaguars starting running back and offensive identity Leonard Fournette is questionable. He hasn't practiced all week after sustaining an ankle injury late in the Jaguars loss to the Rams, but he told reporters after practice on Thursday that he expects to be healthy enough to play. If he can't go then TJ Yeldon might see his first game action of 2017 and Chris Ivory will be asked to carry the load for the Jaguars rushing attack. Starting free safety Tashaun Gipson is also questionable. Gipson has an unspecified neck aggravation but did participate in practice at the end of the week in a limited capacity. He leads the team in interceptions (3) and will be sorely missed if he is unable to play on Sunday. If Gipson can't go, which seems unlikely at this point, Peyton Thompson will likely get the start. He's a serviceable backup, but not near the ball hawk that Gipson is. The last player listed as questionable is Marqise Lee. The Jaguars starting WR didn't participate in practice this week and has been dealing with a plethora of injuries so far this year. He's powered through all of them. This week he's dealing with a knee, but with the Jaguars extreme lack of depth at WR it seems Lee will be forced to play Sunday. If he doesn't play then the Jaguars WRs would be Allen Hurns, Jaelen Strong, Max McCaffery, and Arrelious Benn. The Jaguars will hope for Marqise Lee, Tashaun Gipson, and Leonard Fournette to play -- if one or more miss that game against the Colts, the Jaguars divisional test will become even more difficult. |
