The Jaguars WR position is in flux. Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson, both of whom were drafted by the Jaguars in the second round of the 2014 draft, are set to become free agents. Robinson has proven to be a much more reliable target and has shown the potential to become a star in this league. Lee, on the other hand, has flashed at times, but has been wildly inconsistent. Both players have battled through injuries since becoming professionals.
Allen Robinson is considered by most to be the best wide receiver set to hit free agency, while Lee is more of a fringe top give guy in terms of upcoming free agents. A-Rob is likely looking for a big money deal similar to the one Davante Adams received from the Packers, where Marqise Lee should be much more affordable for whoever signs him. Many, including myself, believe it would be in the Jaguars best interest to bring back Robinson and let Lee walk. But a recent report suggests the Jaguars might be moving in the opposite direction.
If this source is accurate then the Jaguars will almost certainly be looking to add more receiver talent, specifically a big body type guy, in the draft and possibly on the open market in free agency.
It might not be the end of the world if the Jaguars let Robinson walk, but it would certainly be curious as they have the cash to sign him. The only logical reason I can think of to keep Lee instead of Robinson is the team would likely save well over $5 million a year by keeping Lee instead of Robinson.
