In a statement released Wednesday morning Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan announced that he will withdraw his bid to purchase Wembley Stadium.
Here's the full statement from Khan:
In this statement Khan makes a few key points. He did not believe he would have the near unanimous support of the FA council that both he and the FA chairman desired on the purchase of Wembley.
Shad Khan also made it clear that he wouldn't rule out the purchase of Wembley Stadium in the future. The Jaguars long term stability in Jacksonville is greatly aided by the revenue the team makes from their London game every year.
There has been much speculation about the Jaguars moving to London, or at the very least playing more than one game per season across the pond. For now, at least, the Jaguars appear to be safe in Jacksonville. Khan has made it a point to express his full commitment to Jacksonville both in speech and in action since his purchase of the franchise in 2012.
UPDATE: Shad Khan released a statement to the city of Jacksonville Wednesday afternoon.
