Heading into the start of free agency last week the Jaguars had over $70 million in salary cap space. After spending big money on Calais Campbell, AJ Bouye, and Barry Church along with signing several other less expensive players, many including myself were shocked to see that the Jaguars still had $57 million in salary cap space according to the NFL PA. It turns out that number wasn't quite accurate. Since that number was reported yesterday the NFL PA has updated the number including all of the Jaguars recent signings. So, as the Jaguars stand now they have $41 million in salary cap space. What's the difference between the Jaguars having $41 million vs having $57 million? For all intents and purposes, nothing. The Jaguars have plenty of money not only to continue spending in free agency in the coming years but also to resign some of their young, up and coming talent when the time comes. John Idzik and Dave Caldwell have masterfully planned out the Jaguars signings and their contracts to where essentially every player the Jaguars have signed can be released after two to three years and not have any negative impact on the team's salary cap situation. Consider yourself updated! A full list of teams salaries and salary cap space can be found here. #GenJag |
