REACTING TO MAURICE JONES-DREW'S MOCK DRAFT 1.0

MOJO dropped his first mock draft of the season over at NFL Network early this week. Let's take a look.

BY JORDAN DE LUGO

This has been a mock draft-centric Thursday. If you're not a fan of the draft, well, I'm sorry that you don't enjoy the promise that adding young, talented players to your favorite team's roster provides. Fortunately, Maurice Jones-Drew, aka Pocket Hercules, aka MOJO, aka one of the best players in Jaguars' franchise history, is now an analyst over at NFL Network, and he enjoys the draft. Earlier this week, he dropped his first mock draft of 2020. It's a one-round mock.

Let's take a look at what MOJO thinks the Jaguars will do in the first round.

Isaiah Simmons, LB Clemson

MOJO: He's a freak athlete who can cover and rush the passer.

Me: I agree entirely. He'll also help in run defense. The thing here is, Simmons has to fall. He's a top-five player in this class, so seeing him fall to nine would be a little bit surprising. He seems to be the most likely of the truly elite players in this class to potentially fall due to him excelling at positions that aren't valued as highly. I've had Simmons to the Jaguars in my last two mock drafts.

Tee Higgins, WR Clemson

MOJO: Higgins reminds me of DeAndre Hopkins, as he routinely high-points the ball and wins against defenders by being physical.

Me: I introduced the idea of double-dipping on Clemson stars in round one last month. I'm a big fan of Higgins and think he'll be a Pro-Bowl caliber player. You can't teach the things he can do, and he's a better route runner than most give him credit for.

Overall, this is a route I would be fine with the Jaguars taking in the first round. Getting a defensive unicorn that can literally excel at five to six different positions on the field would be a coup. Adding a legitimate receiver opposite DJ Chark could really help open up the middle of the field and help in the running game as well. Higgins is also an excellent red zone and third-down target, two areas where the Jaguars struggled in 2019.
