The Jaguars begin mandatory minicamp, the final phase of the offseason program prior to training camp, on Tuesday. This offseason has been anything but dull when it comes to the Jaguars. With a new QB in town, player arrests, and contract holdouts, a day without news has been rare. Let's take a look at some of the storylines that will dominate the water cooler talk as mandatory minicamp gets underway. 1. Will the Jaguars pay Yannick Ngakoue? Yannick Ngakoue released a statement on Monday explaining that he would not be in attendance at mandatory minicamp. "I will not be attending minicamp as my contract has not been resolved. I remain committed to Jacksonville, the fans, and my teammates. My hope is to be with Jacksonville for years to come." Can you blame him? He's a self-motivated player at a premium position who has done everything right since being drafted by the Jaguars in 2016. Players such as Jalen Ramsey and Leonard Fournette have championed his cause on social media. And nearly everyone is siding with Ngakoue on this one. It's a no-brainer. But for some reason, the Jaguars are jagging this one up. Will they finally get a deal done? 2. The return of the King
Jalen Ramsey is back in town. An annual tradition at this point, Jalen Ramsey will be taking to the practice field for the first time this offseason during minicamp practice on Tuesday. His return should help the secondary look a bit more competent against Nick Foles and the Jaguars' passing attack. They've been put through it without their star CB on the field to this point. Ramsey will speak to the media after practice on Tuesday. I can't wait. Be sure to tune in to the Jaguars' social channels. 3. Will Nick Foles and his receivers impressive play continue? As I mentioned before, the Jaguars' aerial attack was on full display throughout OTAs. Foles has been accurate down the field, and his receivers have been hauling in nearly everything. Can they continue that success as the intensity ramps up? Will Jalen Ramsey's mere presence throw a wrench into the passing offense? If this strong connection between Foles and the receivers continues, even with Ramsey on the field, it could be a sign of things to come in the regular season. 4. Injuries Unfortunately, injuries are always one of the major storylines. Josh Allen (knee contusion) and Ryquell Armstead (hamstring) will not return until training camp. Marqise Lee and Cam Robinson are still rehabbing from season-ending injuries in 2018. You get my point. There's a lot to monitor on the injury front. The hope is that no severe injuries will strike during the teams' three-day minicamp. Stay tuned for more! We'll be there every step of the way throughout the remainder of the offseason! |
