The Jaguars have been most commonly linked to Leonard Fournette in recent mock drafts from around the web, but a recent report from Bleacher Report's Matt Miller suggests that Fournette could be gone prior to the Jaguars selection at four.
The San Francisco 49ers are, according to a scouting source with the team, in love with Reuben Foster and Leonard Fournette if (Myles) Garrett is gone.
As Matt Miller wrote it now seems very possible that Fournette could be off the board when the Jaguars make their pick. This is the first sort of "rumor" that would suggest that Fournette wouldn't be available to the Jaguars with the fourth overall pick.
While running back isn't generally considered a safe or sexy pick at the top of the first round a running back may be able to have the biggest impact of any draftable position for the Jaguars in 2017. Fournette, FSU's Dalvin Cook, and Oklahoma's Joe Mixon are all scheduled to meet with the Jaguars brass. Even though Fournette is believed to be the best running back in the class, and perhaps the freakiest athlete at the position . . . ever . . . the Jaguars could have their eyes set on Cook, Mixon, or any of the other talented backs in this class. Dalvik Cook would be an attractive trade down option for the Jaguars, but with no truly elite QBs in this class it seems unlikely that a team will want to move up to four. Mixon, while considered the best RB in this class by some (including Maurice Jones-Drew), carries far too much baggage to be selected in the top four or even in the 1st round. But if the Jaguars are sold on his improved character and decision making ability off the field then he could be the pick for the Jaguars at the top of the second round, but even then the Jaguars would be greatly scrutinized for drafting such a controversial player. Regardless of whether it's Fournette, Cook, Mixon, or someone else one thing is clear - the Jaguars would like to upgrade their running back position in the draft and could do so as early as the fourth overall pick.
