Jimmy Smith, who is easily the greatest receiver in Jaguars history, will be inducted in to the Pride of the Jaguars on December 11th when the Jaguars take on the Minnesota Vikings. For those of you that don't know the Pride of the Jaguars is essentially the Jaguars Hall of Fame. Smith will join Fred Taylor, Mark Brunell, and Tony Boselli as the fourth member of the Pride. Smith struggled with substance abuse for much of his adult life. These struggles were well documented and even lead to suspensions and an unexpected retirement. These off field issues are likely part of the reason that it took so long for Smith to make into the Pride, but despite battling his demons Smith has turned his life around and is once again becoming a pillar of the community! On the field Smith's career was nothing short of remarkable. Jimmy Smith recorded over 1,000 yards receiving 9 times in his career, a feat topped only by Jerry Rice. He amassed 12,287 yards in his career, good for 21st all time. 20th all time in catches, Smith hauled in 862 in his career. in 1999, Smith lead the league in receiving, catching 116 passes for 1,636 yards and 6 TDs. This is a huge announcement for the Jaguars and a huge step for Jimmy Smith! Congrats Jimmy! More From Generation Jaguar |
