As you already know (I'm assuming you're a Jaguars fan that hasn't been hiding under a rock for the last six months), the Jaguars will take on the Chiefs in their regular-season opener at TIAA Bank Field on September 8th. On Wednesday, Jaguars' defensive coordinator Todd Wash spoke to the media about several subjects. I'll write about all of them later. But the reason we're here now, the reason you're reading this article is that Wash revealed a significant aspect of the Jaguars' defensive strategy against the Chiefs. Yes, he told the media that Duval's "King" would, in fact, follow the "Cheetah" when the Chiefs and Jaguars collide in less than two weeks. Jalen Ramsey will trail Tyreek Hill. Ramsey is the most polarizing figure in Jaguars' history. From his magnificent play on the field to him getting in the heads' of receiving greats AJ Green and Steve Smith to his lambasting of nearly every QB in the NFL, Jalen Ramsey is the star that Duval deserves. Even more divisive than Ramsey is Tyreek Hill, the most electrifying skill position player in all of football. As flawless as Hill was on the field for the Chiefs in 2018, he's garnered more attention for his behavior off it. Allegations of domestic violence have clouded Tyreek Hill's stellar play. But these two stars will duke it out for most of the game, if the Jaguars' defensive coordinator is to be believed. Why he would reveal his strategy to Andy Reid, Pat Mahomes and company is unclear. But I'll take Wash's comments at face value.
Ramsey v Hill is going to happen, and there are sure to be fireworks. When the two teams faced off in 2018, Ramsey and Hill didn't see too much of each other. Ramsey lined up across from Hill only a handful of times. On Hill's first target of the game, Ramsey locked up the speedy receiver and forced Pat Mahomes to sail the ball out of bounds. After that, there wasn't much action between the two. Hill was targeted three more times with Ramsey in coverage and hauled in two of those targets for 46 yards. This time around it appears they will line up head to head for much of the game. Ramsey will have to be in top form from the get-go because Hill's speed can get the best of anyone. If Ramsey if up to the challenge, the Jaguars will have a good shot at slowing down the high flying Chiefs. Of course, there will be plenty of other matchups to hone in on, but we'll take a look at those later. Follow Jordan on Twitter for all the latest Jaguars news and analysis. |
