I'm sure many Jaguars fans are all familiar with Alterraun Verner. His breakout year in 2013 with the Titans lead to a big contract with Tampa Bay in 2014 - cashing in a deal with $14 million guaranteed. Verner struggled In 2014 and 15 season but played a key part in the turnaround (somewhat) of the Bucs defense in 2016.
"He was a little out of shape, word is they will do a
As stated above a report claimed Verner was of shape at the workouts. Although being out of shape is a problem, it can easily be fixed long before Week 1. If he does get signed and is still out of shape by the time Training Camp comes around it could become a more significant concern.
Dave Caldwell is being smart right now. He's finally realized there isn't much depth on the outside behind Ramsey and Bouye. The Jaguars drafted Jalen Myrick in the 7th round but he's primarily projected as a slot and nickel type of corner to help Aaron Colvin out. Josh Johnson will be the man backing up Ramsey and Bouye unless someone else proves themselves in training camp. Verner would likely immediately supplant Johnson as the teams primary back up cornerback. I like this workout - Although I think the Jaguars should go after a certain future Hall of Famer instead (Cough, Cough, Darrelle Revis). The Jags are also set to interview WR Victor Cruz, who like Verner would bring experience, leadership, and maturity to the table.
