Jaguars Week 8 Rookie Report

Rookie mistakes and a lack of effort and production would perfectly sum up the Thursday night blowout in Tennessee on Thursday.

Jalen Ramsey: Our young cornerback has solidified himself as our struggling teams’ only player that garners optimism from a fan base, organization and team that is drowning in negativity. The League hates us, the referees don’t believe in calling holding on our opposition, our coaches are incompetent, but hey, at least we’ve got Ramsey. Only note I have for him is to temper that aggression when hitting players that are clearly out of bounds, yah’ know, considering that usually draws a flag.

Stats: 8 total tackles/4 solo.

Myles Jack: No idea where Myles Jack was during that dumpster fire that our coaches organized on Thursday. My only guess is that it would make sense to try and have bigger bodies to match up against the Titans running game. I saw Dan Skuta at OTTO for most of the game and he is certainly more disruptive playing run defense than Jack but it sure hurt us in the play-action game. Lets be real though, Jack wouldn’t have made a difference in that game. Matchups don’t matter if your team gives up before half.

Stats: no recorded stats.

Yannick and Dante: Second consecutive game with no sacks. Dante Fowlers’ spin move isn’t fooling anyone anymore and Yannick has slowed down after a fast start to the season.  Our lackluster performances from our defensive line has left us exposed in coverage and when you combine that exposure with fatigue, its no wonder the Titans put up 27 in the first half. Yeah, we lost Roy Miller, but that isn’t enough to tank an extremely high paid defensive line. We have to get creative and create more pressure on quarterbacks.

Stats: DF: 2 total tackles/YN: no recorded stats.

Sheldon Day: Sheldon Day saw his playtime increase this week against the Titans because of the injury to veteran defensive tackle Roy Miller. Day had his moments this weekend. That being said, the Jaguars got out-muscled all day on the defensive line. To be fair, our problem wasn’t exactly within the interior of the d-line, (where Day plays), as much as our inability to set the edge and stop the outside run. You’re welcome, DeMarco Muray and Derrick Henry.

Stats: 1 TFL.
