The Jaguars preseason has been . . . interesting, to say the least. A QB controversy, a retirement/unretirerement/who knows what the heck happened, and a boat load of injuries have highlighted the storylines for the Jaguars this preseason. Now, it all comes to a close. Here's 3 things to watch for in the annual snooze fest that is the fourth preseason game.
1. The Offensive Line - It's unlikely that too many Jaguars starters get playing time tonight. But I have a sneaky suspicion that some starters on the offensive line will get plenty of playing time. It's pretty much unprecedented for starters to play in preseason game 4, but it's also unprecedented for starters to play into the fourth quarter of a preseason game, which is exactly what the Jaguars offensive line did in week 3 against the Panthers. The offensive line performance in preseason has been abysmal. This group needs some positive momentum heading into the regular season. Maybe, just maybe they'll hit their stride this evening against what is likely to be the backup defensive front for the Falcons. 2. Brandon Allen - Brandon Allen will take . . . all of the snaps for the Jaguars tonight. Well, he'll at least take most of them. The second year QB is 3rd on the Jaguars depth chart and is looking to remain on the active roster for a second straight season as the team's 3rd QB. Whether or not he makes the team may have already been decided by the coaching staff, but this game could be the last piece to the puzzle for Allen. Many fans are clamoring to see him play extensively and tonight will be his opportunity to do just that. We'll see if he can capitalize. He has good rapport with Dede Westbrook, who is expected to play, and will likely get to toss the rock to Keelan Cole and Shane Wynn, both of whom have been impressive, in this one. 3. Jason Myers - Yes, the Jaguars kicker is key. Myers had an extremely poor showing in the first two weeks of the preseason, but bounced back in week 3, making all of his kicks against the Panthers. The Jaguars brought in two kickers for workouts, but still decided to roll with Jason Myers. Myers needs to continue the positive momentum heading into the regular season.
