The Jaguars announced on Monday afternoon that they would host eight tryout players during their veteran mandatory mini camp this week. The list of players that will tryout for the team includes:
FB Lamar Atkins, TE Ashton Broyld, CB Chris Gaines, QB Justin Holman, P Peter Mortell, LS Taybor Pepper, K Nicholas Weller, and WR Garrett Scantling. Many Jacksonville locals will recognize the last name on the list. Scantling was a standout star at Episcopal High School in several sports, but attended the University of Georgia where he didn't play football and instead developed into a star track and fielder. Some might also remember his brother Hunter, who pitched for Florida State University. He was signed by the Atlanta Falcons in April of this year following his career at Georgia. Scantling didn't make it with the Falcons, but that gave him the opportunity to try out for his hometown team. Being on the smaller side and coming in at the loaded WR position for the Jaguars, Scantling like the rest of these tryout players, will be an extreme long shot to stick around. Scantling earned All-American Honors four times while attending UGA. Stay tuned for more
