The Jaguars have signed veteran RB Jamaal Charles to a one year deal, this according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Charles is no longer the back he once was in his hey day with the Chiefs, but he still was able to manage 4.3 yards per carry in a less than ideal situation with the Broncos in 2017. Charles represents a chance for the Jaguars to have an effective and versatile running game while they wait on Leonard Fournette to return from a nagging hamstring injury. The Jaguars backfield now looks like this. Leonard Fournette: battling a hamstring injury with no timetable for a return. TJ Yeldon: Battling an ankle injury, but still playing productive football. Jamaal Charles: Aging but healthy and ready to contribute. David Williams (assuming the early report that he would sign with the team today is still accurate): A rookie seventh round pick, signed off the Broncos practice squad Tuesday morning. Brandon Wilds has been released by the Jaguars to make room for Jamaal Charles. The Jaguars have also promoted TE David Grinnage from the practice squad to the active roster. He'll replace Austin Seferian-Jenkins on the roster, who was placed on the injured reserve with a core muscle injury, for the time being. With Wilds being released plus Corey Grant and Austin Seferian-Jenkins on injured reserve it appears that the Jaguars 53 man roster is set . . . for the moment. |
