The Jaguars have signed star outside linebacker Telvin Smith to a four year extension. There are multiple reports regarding the actual value of the deal, but it's in-between $44-50 million!
Many Jaguars fans have been clamoring for the Jaguar to resign the fourth year linebacker for some time. He becomes the third Jaguars from rookie from 2014 to sign a contract extension. He joins center Brandon Linder and wide receiver Allen Hurns.
Smith has racked up 403 tackles, 6 INTs, 4 forces fumbles, 4 fumbles recoveries, and 6.5 sacks in his 3.5 seasons in Jacksonville.
The Jaguars 26 year old linebacker has become an emotional leader for one of the best defenses in football and is on his way to what should be a Pro Bowl 2017 campaign. This deal immediately vaults Telvin Smith to the top of the list for 4-3 outside linebackers.
Smith had this to say about his contract:
I am excited about the opportunity to continue my career in Jacksonville and stay with the team that believed in me coming into the league in 2014.
His next chance to prove his worth will be in week nine against the Bengals.
