The Jaguars made it official, selecting Trevor Lawrence with the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Lawrence gives the Jaguars a foundational piece at quarterback. But where would they go with the 25th overall pick? Back to the well at Clemson, of course. Running back Travis Etienne, who scored 78 touchdowns and averaged over seven yards per carry in college, will be joining Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville. Etienne is a walking big-play that will give the Jaguars more speed and playmaking ability on offense. He has long speed, contact balance, and lightning quick acceleration. Urban Meyer and the Jags are off to an auspicious start to the draft after adding a talented offensive weapon that will provide a level of comfort and familiarity for Trevor Lawrence. I'm team "don't draft a running back in the first round" but with the Jaguars having ten picks in this class and having already added their franchise quarterback, this one could work out. Add in the fact that James Robinson and Carlos Hyde will help carry the load, and Etienne should be in an advantageous situation.
The roster still has plenty of room for improvement. The Jaguars hold picks 33, 45, 65, 106, 130, 145, 170, and 249. Their top remaining needs are defensive tackle, safety, edge, offensive tackle, tight end, and wide receiver. Follow Jordan on Twitter |
