The entire Jaguars 90 man roster and the entire coaching staff are now in Jacksonville for 2017 Jaguars training camp.
While there isn't much to get into in terms of real news coming out of the first day of the team being together Head Coach Doug Marrone did speak to the media. He was his usual self. Very Honest. He told the media as emphatically as possible that he was trying to win every situation and that when he and the other coaches speak with the team this evening that the message will be about winning. Jalen Ramsey, Aaron Colvin, and Marquez Williams will not be available for practice tomorrow and make up the team's entire PUP list. He said rookie FB Marquez Williams will probably be available to come off the PUP list soon. Tashaun Gipson, Barry Church, and TJ Yeldon will all be participants in the first practice of training camp tomorrow. Following the 5 year, $51.7 million extension of Brandon Linder's contract Marrone said that Linder will in fact stay at center. Marrone's prized second round pick Cam Robinson is still just a LT for now. Marrone's message to the media was brief and to the point: It's all about winning. Calais Campbell also spoke with the media. He told the media "I can tell by now that the team is special"... "All the pieces are in place". He also mentioned he feels that he is already well adjusted to switching to the 4-3 defensive end position. He went on to emphasize winning the division and just getting into the playoffs. Regarding new starting linebacker Myles Jack said "We're counting on him". Marcedes Lewis spoke to the media and said "It's really different" ... "we might have the most talent that I've ever been around". He went on to look at all the position groups and likes what he sees. He thinks "Blake will have another breakout year". On Dante Fowler Lewis said "We have his back". Paul Posluszny took the podium. He talked about leadership, in particular with the new defenders the team brought in this offseason. "There's a different feel ... that alone should have a big impact on the way we play". On Dante Fowler Posluszny said "He's great when he is here ... We're here for him ... We want him to be an enormous part of this team". Regarding his position change Pos said he will line up both on the ball and off the ball depending on what defense the team is playing. He said he excels off the ball and that he will "be put in positions to succeed". There is a clear and present theme here. The team is talented and the team wants to win. That's all there is. It's refreshing to hear so much talk about winning coming out of Everbank Field. The word winning was seemingly uttered more in today's 40 minute press conference that it was over the entire last four seasons. They're talking the talk, now they'll need to walk the walk. Like what you see from the team? Let us know in the comment section below. Dante Fowler Jr., just a week after being arrested for punching a 55 year old man in the face, apologized to the city of Jacksonville and the Jaguars. He said he has received support from teammates and talks with Coach Marrone and Tom Coughlin have been "positive". |
