The Jaguars began the process of cutting down their roster on Friday morning. The team doesn't officially have to get the roster down to 53 players until Saturday a 4 pm EST, but that didn't stop the Jaguars from cutting three players early Friday morning.
The Jaguars released defensive lineman Datone Jones, wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, and rookie undrafted cornerback Saivion Smith; this according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Datone Jones is the biggest surprise here, but it's a numbers game and the Jaguars have depth to spare on the defensive line. Jones had an impressive training camp and preseason for the Jaguars and should be able to catch on somewhere else. Terrelle Pryor's release shouldn't come as much of shock. He's struggled to stay healthy with a hamstring injury this preseason and hasn't been able to make an impact in practice since early in training camp. Saivion Smith didn't have much of a chance to catch on here. I did, however, think his length and athletic ability might entice the Jaguars to sign him to their practice squad. The team still could do just that if he goes unsigned. Stay tuned for more! Follow Jordan on Twitter for all the latest Jaguars news and analysis. |
