On Monday morning, the Jaguars announced they placed defensive end/outside linebacker Josh Allen on the reserve/COVID-19 list. He won't suit up when the Jaguars take on the Saints in front of a national television audience on Monday Night Football. The third year player from Kentucky is the Jaguars' top pass rusher and leader on the defensive side of the ball. While the team has not confirmed why Allen has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, this designation indicates that he has either tested positive for COVID-19 or come in close contact with someone who has. Without Allen on the field, 2020 first-round pick K'Lavon Chaisson should get plenty of run. He's had an up and down camp, but will get an opportunity to show that he can be a factor for the Jaguars' defense in 2021. The Jags allowed the Browns to convert on over 58% of the third downs last week. They could use Chaisson's speed around the edge to help reduce that number in preseason week two.
Other EDGE players, veterans Dawuane Smoot and Jihad Ward, along with rookie Jordan Smith, will also receive a larger work load in New Orleans. For a team coming off a pitiful 18 sack season in 2021, these are the moments when the Jaguars depth rushers must show they can get after opposing quarterbacks. Follow Jordan on Twitter. |
