The Jaguars have had a busy few weeks. After wrapping up voluntary OTAs last week, the Jaguars will complete their final portion of the offseason program this week. After Mini Camp wraps on Thursday the team won't reconvene until mid to late July for Training Camp.
Mandatory Mini Camp isn't all that different from OTAs - one major difference being players are required under contract to attend, so if a player decides to skip then he is liable to get fined by his team.
Branden Albert, who was holding out for the last several months reported to minicamp and had some very interesting comments. He made it clear that there was no guarantee from the Jaguars when he was traded to the team for a 7th round pick that he would get a better deal - a story that had long been rumored was put to bed. He also assured the media that he would absolutely be in Jacksonville for the start of training camp next month and that his contract issue was in the past.
On a similar but different front undrafted wide receiver Kenneth Walker was allowed to attend his first practices with the team - he was held out prior due to graduation rules. Walker is an extreme long shot to make the team, but the more bodies in camp the better.
Players who weren't active during the team's first minicamp - Dede Westbrook (missed all of OTAs too), Aaron Colvin (recovering from injury last season), TJ Yeldon, Corey Grant, Tashaun Gipson (missed all of OTAs), Barry Church (missed all of OTAs), Neal Sterling, Tim Cook, Stefan Charles.
Marrone gave a passionate post practice press conference and covered a great deal (as he usually does). He emphasized the fact that availability and coachability are two of the most important traits that players can have. Dede Westbrook, the teams starting safeties, and Branden Albert have all been unavailable to this point. Albert is now with the team, but Westbrook, Church, and Gipson continue to miss time. According to Marrone the team has a long way to go in terms of situational football.
Stay tuned for more.
