Werner is a former first round pick out of Florida State who originally hails from Berlin. He was drafted in the first round of the 2013 Draft by the Colts after being voted ACC Defensive Player of the Year and being voted First Team All-ACC in 2012. During his time in Indianapolis Werner was largely underwhelming. He recorded 6.5 sacks in three seasons with the team. While he has been a major disappointment thus far in his NFL career, the 6'3'' 255 lb. pass rusher will certainly provide competition to the Jaguars pass rush group. Werner will be a LEO and thus specialize in edge rushing. After being released by the Colts earlier this offseason it is unclear what Werner will bring to the table for the Jags. He will likely be fourth or fifth on the depth chart behind Fowler, Ngakoue, Smith, and Holmes, but he could make a run at a roster spot at LEO where the Jaguars have been traditionally weak from a depth standpoint.
Chance Casey is a cornerback that the Jaguars added to the roster earlier this offseason. He originally signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Baylor in 2013. During his time in Oakland Casey played in four games. Since he was released by the Raiders in 2014 he has spent time with the 49ers, Colts, and Browns. The Jaguars cornerback room was getting way too deep after adding Prince Amukamara, Jalen Ramsey, and several undrafted free agents to go along with the corners that the Jaguars already employed. |
