If you haven't been hiding under a rock this offseason then you've probably heard about Kirk Cousins hitting the free agent market. He's the most productive player at the QB position to become a free agent in some time. While he isn't flawless as a QB, Cousins is a borderline top 10 player at his position.
That means his bank account balance is about to look a whole lot nicer. There's a chance he becomes the highest paid player in football.
Among the teams regularly linked to Cousins, the Jaguars might be the most complete outside of the QB position.
The Jets currently have the best odds according to Bovada at 2/3. The Broncos follow with 7/4 odds and the Cardinals come it at third with 15/2 odds. In fourth the Jaguars and Bills are tied at 12/1 odds. The Dolphins and Jets both have 20/1 odds. All this according to Matt Miller of Bleacher Report.
The Jaguars QB position could be in flux. Blake Bortles had the best season of his career in 2017 and helped get the Jaguars to within a couple of plays of the Super Bowl. But most question whether or not he is the long term answer at QB for the Jaguars.
Cousins provides a bit more than Bortles in terms of accuracy, but he's never been able to advance past the first round of the playoffs. Of course, he hasn't had the luxury of a dominating defense, but Blake has done enough to prove he belongs in the league. Bortles will cost the Jaguars nearly $20 million in 2018 if they decide to go through with his fifth year option. Cousins is likely to cost closer to $30 million a year.
Either way the Jaguars QB situation looks much better today than it did a just a year ago.
