In essence that means that if another team wants to sign Davis, the Jaguars will have the option to match the offer and if the Jags decide not to then the team the signs Davis will have to give the Jaguars a second round pick. Davis is a quality depth player on the defensive line. He has recorded 10 sacks in the last two seasons combined and has shown the ability to rush the passer on the interior part of the line. Davis is entering his fifth season in the league -- An impressive feat for a former undrafted free agent from Bethune Cookman.
It is a virtually certainty that no team will give up a second round pick in order to secure the services of Ryan Davis as second round picks are a valuable commodity and Ryan Davis is somewhat unproven. This is a good move for a Jaguars team that is struggling to rush the passer. They are bringing back one of the few players on their team that has shown the ability to get to the quarterback despite his limited role in the defense.
