Blair Brown and the Jaguars have agreed to terms on his rookie contract. While the terms of the deal have not yet been released, salaries for 5th round picks are a far cry from the big money that first rounders make.
While Brown was a fifth round pick he has major upside and will be an immediate impact on special teams. The list of achievements for Blair Brown at the collegiate level is seemingly endless. At Ohio he lead the nation in tackling efficiency and racked up 266 tackles during his illustrious college career. For the Jaguars he'll be a back up weak side line backer and special teamer. He'll learn behind Telvin Smith and could develop into a potential starter. At 238 lbs. he has anywhere from 13 to 20 lbs on his mentor to be. Via the Jaguars PR Manager Tad Dickman Brown had this to say about signing his first contract in the NFL: This was definitely a big moment for me, just to be able to sit down and look at the NFL contract and see my name on it. It was a dream come true.
Brown won't be expected to have a big impact on the defense right away, but he could be one injury away from hitting the field as a weak side linebacker. He'll need to be diligent in his work this offseason and let his natural instincts take over on the football field. If so, he might find a role for the Jaguars defense sooner rather than later. Early on be sure to keep an eye on his production and effectiveness on special teams.
