After an okay practice for the Jaguars on Monday, the team followed it up with a bit of a stinker Tuesday. It wasn't all bad for the Jags, but their most important player, Blake Bortles, was atrocious. Bortles went 5 for 17 in team drills according to Jags beat writer Ryan O'Halloran. He did, however, not throw any balls to the wrong team. Regardless of turnovers, completing just 29% of your attempts is simply unacceptable, no matter the situation.
Despite his poor day in full team drills Bortles remains confident. He had this to say following practice: "You watch seven on seven or one on one there wasn't a lot of times we got stopped ... we just gotta find a way to carry that over to 11 on 11." The offensive line took another blow today as Jermey Parnell hobbled off the field during practice. The team's depth along the line is getting thinner and thinner. For the Jaguars sake let's hope Parnell isn't out for an extended period of time. Allen Hurns missed practice today after leaving practice early on Monday. There is still no word on his injury, but his absence will give guys like Dede Westbrook a chance to shine. On the other side of the ball the defense was up and down. The Patriots QBs, namely Tom Brady, played well. The Jaguars defense was without three starters in their secondary missing Jalen Ramsey, Aaron Colvin, and AJ Bouye. They were also without Calais Campbell on the line. Despite the inability to slow down the Patriots QBs the Jaguars defense did play very well on the goal line holding the Patriots to just one score in four attempts on the GL. Dante Fowler made headlines again for the wrong reasons. He was kicked off the field twice in five minutes - once for a face mask and once for jawing with Patriots players. You would like to see Fowler making headlines for his play and not his antics, but Tom Coughlin said after practice "I think he'll be okay." I'm not going to read too much into that here. The Jaguars take on the Patriots Thursday night. What do you want to see out of the team in their first preseason action of 2017? Let us know in the comment section below. |
