I’ve had dreams of this moment. I would never have thought that I would be seeing a Jaguars team play for the AFC Championship this quickly after our woes of the last ten years. How did we defeat the Steelers? Let’s break it down.
There is one simple answer to this question. Blake freaking Bortles. Blake came into the playoffs with a lot of hate and doubt emanating from not only other players and fan bases but also our very own. Not a lot of people believed in him and thought he could do it, but time and time again he sat there and said that he has a job to do and he will do it, and by golly he did it. Blake Bortles is the X factor. When Blake plays well the Jags win. When he doesn’t turn the ball over, they win, when he keeps calm and collected in the pocket and runs the offense like he knows he can, then they win. Blake is the reason the Jaguars won that game. Going 14 for 26 with 214 passing yards and one very clutch touchdown pass to Bohanon he knew what he was doing. He picked up the slack on offense and gave the defense a great start and took the pressure from off that side of the ball. He silenced the haters and silenced the negativity the only way he could. Blake strived off of the play action with Fournette and helped bring the momentum the Jaguars way early in the game as they shocked the world by putting up a 21 point lead early in a game that many thought the Steelers could win easily. He was a cool customer and performed admirably under the pressure that is the playoffs and for all of that: I thank you, Blake. Thank you for leading our team and proving the doubters wrong.
