In the every busy days leading up to the draft news of player visits and pro day numbers are swirling. Today LSU held their pro day in Baton Rouge.
Leonard Fournette showed off a newly trimmed physique. In the last month-ish Fournette has dropped a significant amount of weight. When he weighed in at the combine Fournette was an astounding 240 lbs. Now, he weighs in at a much more reasonable 228 lbs., which is likely a much more ideal playing weight. At this point it seems unlikely that Fournette escapes the top five. With his newly thinned physique and an absolutely ridiculous combination of speed, size, and power Fournette appears to be the most talented to back to enter the NFL since Adrian Peterson. His defensive counterpart Jamal Adams was also on display. At the NFL Combine Adams ran a respectable 4.56 40 yard dash. That time certainly wouldn't have scouts scratching their heads. At strong safety it would probably be an average to slightly above average time. But today at his pro day the heralded safety Adams clocked a 4.38 forty yard dash. That's better then most free safeties - heck, that's better than many of the fastest receivers and cornerbacks in today's game. If Adams is able to bring that type of speed to a defense at either safety position come Sundays, he will prove to be the top five type talent that most believe he is. While it was already reported that many of the top draft prospects would be visiting the Jaguars in the coming days, today we found at that Adams and Ohio State free safety Malik Hooker would also be visiting the Jaguars. With 30 allowed visits with draft prospects the Jaguars would be foolish not to meet with many of the players expected to go in the top ten. Essentially, what I'm saying is the Jaguars are likely only doing their due diligence with most of these players including Hooker and Adams. It would, quite frankly, be shocking if the Jaguars selected a safety in the first round. After spending big on Tashaun Gipson at free safety in the 2016 offseason and Barry Church at strong safety in the 2017 offseason the idea of drafting a safety to replace either Gipson or Church doesn't make much sense. Still, stranger things have happened. Stay tuned for more draft coverage! Follow Jordan de Lugo on Twitter
