Does Jalen Ramsey want out of Jacksonville?
That's the questions everyone in Duval is asking Monday morning after a controversial tweet and instagram story post. Jalen first tweeted this:
The tweet alone did little to make things clear about just what Jalen was talking about, although it was obvious there was some frustration from the polarizing young corner back. But an instagram story that Ramsey later shared made it obvious as to just what Jalen was talking about in his tweet . . .
It's hard to dispute the fact that Jalen Ramsey was directly addressing Jacksonville. It's not hard to imagine why Jalen Ramsey and other Jaguars players would be frustrated at the way things have gone in 2018. But to lash out at the city or franchise as a whole shows a lack of maturity and understanding.
Ramsey is one of the few players who has avoided heavy criticism for his play this year in Jacksonville. He's still well respected amongst fans and media, so it's hard to fathom how he could be so upset with Jacksonville.
This isn't the first time that Jalen Ramsey's attitude needed some adjusting. He's regularly been flippant when talking to local media at press conferences. Ramsey's also gone back and forth on whether or not he supports the team's much maligned QB Blake Bortles. He even went as far as to delete a picture of he and Bortles from his instagram page earlier this season.
I'm not sure if this is just frustration from a disappointing season or a larger issue for the Jaguars' star CB, but it's clear that Ramsey is not a happy camper in Jacksonville.
If you're wondering if Ramsey could force his way out of Jacksonville the answer is likely no. He's only in his third season and the Jaguars have the ability to keep him through 2020 with his fifth year option. Beyond that the team could use the franchise tag on Ramsey for multiple seasons, assuming franchise tag rules do not change in the near future. In terms of trading Ramsey it seems highly unlikely that the Jaguars could get fair compensation, especially when potential trade partners know that Jalen wants out.
This situation is getting sticky. We will keep you updated with any further information moving forward.
Stay tuned, Duval.
