The long awaited debut of rookie WR Dede Westbrook will happen this Sunday when the Jaguars take on the Browns.
Westbrook suffered a core muscle injury at the end of preseason that required surgery. The Jaguars placed Westbrook on injured reserve with a designation to return from injury. Week nine was the first week Westbrook was eligible to be activated, but the Jaguars slowly brought him along to ensure that he was truly ready to play. His health, and understanding of the offense came at the perfect time for the Jaguars. Allen Hurns is injured and will miss week 11 with an ankle injury. Arrelious Benn will also be unavailable against the Browns after being placed on IR with a knee injury, which leaves the Jaguars with just three players at WR that have played a down at WR this year -- Marqise Lee, rookie Keelan Cole, and Jaydon Pickens. Westbrook will bring speed and big play ability to the Jaguars offense and should develop into a reliable target for QB Blake Bortles with his impressive ability to bring in nearly everything thrown to him. The Jaguars placed Arrelious Benn on IR and activated WR Larry Pinkard who will take his place on special teams. In a somewhat surprising move the Jaguars released Sheldon Day, whose spot became expendable with the addition of Marcell Dareus. The Jaguars also activated SS Calvin Pryor to the active roster from injured reserve. |
