When the Jaguars announced early yesterday that there would be a Jaguar player featured in the upcoming episode of NFL Networks Top 100 Players of 2016, many believed it would be Allen Robinson or Malik Jackson, but to the excitement of many, many Jaguars fans the selection was Blake Bortles. The third year quarterback is beloved in Jacksonville, but outside of Duval there was seemingly a bit of hesitation when folks talked about Blake Bortles as a future star. Well, that has certainly been put to bed as the NFL players voted for Blake so much that he landed at #56, ahead of Andrew Luck, Kirk Cousins, Derek Carr, and Teddy Bridgwater. Bortles is clearly held in high regard amongst the players. And why not? He threw 35 TDs in 2015, a number only bested by Tom Brady, and over 4,400 yards.
Bortles has many things he can improve on, but by far the biggest area that he must show improvement in 2016 is turnovers. In 2015 he threw 18 INTs, the most in the NFL. And he has had terrible luck with his INTs as many of them have been returned for six. Despite Bortles' turnover woes, the future is bright for the young signal caller. Going into his third season he is surrounded by some of the best weapons in football. There are reportedly supposed to be 5 Jaguars in the Top 100 Players this year. After seeing Bortles, Ivory, Smith, and Hurns come off the board that leaves only one spot left. To me it is clear that Allen Robinson is the player that MUST be coming up soon on this list.
