The future is bright at offensive tackle in Duval.

The Jaguars’ starting offensive line hasn’t been at full strength in a regular season game since week two of the 2018 season. As a result, the Jaguars have allowed far too much pressure on their QBs and have not created enough push up front in the run game.

On Thursday night, for two drives, the Jaguars saw a glimpse of what might be, especially from their left and right tackle, who had never stepped foot on a game field together.

Jacksonville’s left tackle, Cam Robinson, appeared in his first game since tearing his ACL against the Patriots in September of 2018.

Jawaan Taylor, a rookie right tackle from Florida, played in his first game of the preseason after suffering a minor knee injury against the Ravens in joint practices before week one of the preseason.

While both were on the field for the Jaguars in Miami, viewers were offered a peek at what might be when the Jaguars’ two tackles take the field together this fall.

Cam Robinson played just six snaps but didn’t allow any Dolphins’ defenders to come close to his new QB Nick Foles. And he added a noticeable spiciness to the demeanor of the Jags’ offensive line. He allowed Foles to throw from a clean pocket. If that type of play continues, it will give the Jaguars their best chance at a successful passing attack in 2019.

Jawaan Taylor was on the field for 35 snaps and also did commendable work on pass protection. He allowed one pressure in 21 pass-blocking snaps.

Doug Marrone spoke with the media on Sunday and gave a typically measured response when asked about his two cornerstone tackles.

“I liked the way both players looked and played out there. I think they both have things to improve on for us to be where we want to be. I think they would both tell you that, but I think it’s trending in the right direction.”

While both players were executing at a high level, it was against a Dolphins’ defensive front that isn’t exactly loaded with world-beaters. But as the Jaguars’ head coach said, the offensive tackle position is on the up and up in Duval.
