After meeting with Deshaun Watson for two days the Jaguars have now scheduled a visit with local product Nathan Peterman, who played his high school football at Bartram Trail. This according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Peterman's path to the NFL draft was far from an easy one. After starting his career at Tennessee Peterman decided to transfer to Pitt to complete his Junior and Senior year as the starting QB for the Panthers. Peterman played very well in college, but at the beginning of the draft process was considered a day three selection at best. As the process has moved along Peterman has sky rocketed up draft boards and now appears poised to come off the board in the second or third round. At 6'2'' tall he lacks the ideal size of an elite QB, but he makes up for it with his other attributes. At 226 pounds Peterman has the type of body that can take the beating that NFL defenses are sure to give him.
So what has this Jacksonville native shooting up draft boards? He had an extremely impressive Senior Bowl week and was easily the best QB in Mobile. He shows poise, accuracy, and good decision making. He rarely makes the wrong read and has a good enough arm to get it done in the NFL. He is a similar prospect to Kirk Cousins, who like Peterman doesn't have eye popping measurables or arm strength, but knows how to get the job done at QB. Peterman's composure and accuracy will give him a chance to be a solid starting QB in the NFL. For the Jaguars it seems more likely that he would be a target in the third round instead of the second - mostly because the Jaguars have a couple of other pressing needs that need to be addressed in the first two rounds. But what a story it would be! Plenty of local players have gotten drafted, some of them by the Jaguars. But for a local QB to be drafted by his hometown team would be truly special. Time will tell if the story ever comes to fruition. Follow Jordan de Lugo on Twitter
