1. Go uptempo early onThe Jaguars coaching staff clearly doesn't like change, but with an offense that can't find any sort of consistency things must be shaken up. When the Jaguars and Bortles play uptempo, they play better, and usually stay on the field longer, despite playing at a faster pace. Against the Raiders last week, the Jaguars didn't have a single three and out when they came out running an uptempo offense. Unfortunately, the coaching staff hasn't elected to go uptempo early in games. Go uptempo to start the game against the Titans and let the chips fall where they may . . . You might actually like the results. 2. Don't run as many quick hittersBlake Bortles isn't an accurate passer on quick timing routes. He struggles to get the ball out on time and is often throwing the ball high, low, or behind the receiver on short routes. He's much better when he can stand and deliver the ball 10+ yards down field. And that skill set also suits our receivers who excel at out dueling defenders for the ball. Well, they haven't excelled at it so far this year, but we know they have the skill set to go and make plays on the ball when they get vertical. 3. Abandon the run this weekI'm not suggesting the Jaguars abandon the run completely. But trying to run a balanced offense hasn't been working. Go uptempo and throw the ball instead of continuing to beat your head against the wall. The Jaguars have been terrible on the ground, while their week 8 opponent has been terrific at stopping the run. The Titans are giving up less than 90 yards a game on the ground, and have a lot of talent up front. The Jaguars fail to get even the slightest push from their O Line in the run game. So . . . Pass, Pass, Pass. More From Generation JaguarJaguars Week 7 Rookie ReportJaguars Week 7 SuperlativesDear Allen RobinsonShop Gen Jag |
