"30. Jacksonville (3-13). This ranking comes from not trusting Blake Bortles—yet—and not trusting a pass rush dealt a horrible blow with the Dante Fowler injury an hour into his NFL career." First of all off season power rankings are completely meaningless. That being said, fans get bored in the off season and need to be entertained. King does address two important factors here. It is extremely reasonable to not "trust" Blake yet, and he is correct in saying that losing Fowler was a huge blow. However, King does not mention the development of players like Aaron Colvin, Demetrius McCray, Telvin Smith, and the Jaguars' young and talented receiving core which was bolstered with the likes of Julius Thomas and Rashad Green. He does not mention the newly acquired depth at the running back position. He does not mention the offensive line that will likely have three new starters in Jermey Parnell, Steph Wisniewski, and A.J. Cann. King also overlooks the fact that the Jaguars were top 10 in rushing the passer last year. Anyone who followed the team closely could tell you that the Jaguars, while having a pass rush that was able to rack up sacks, did not have consistent pressure on the QB last year. The addition of Jared Odrick and the growth of young players such as Ryan Davis, Andre Branch, and Chris Smith will help the Jaguars to improve their pass rush despite losing Fowler for the season. King, like many members of the main stream media, often overlooks the Jaguars, to the dismay of many of us loyal Jaguar fans. I do not take issue with media members when they form an educated opinion about what the Jaguars are doing and simply do not think we are good enough to compete. None of What Mr. King said is inaccurate or to be considered folly, however he does overlook many of the positive additions the team made in the offseason. Overall King's power rankings, similar to many power rankings across the web, lack depth. They provide a small glimpse into what is going on with a given team. I personally think he is a bit off with his assessment of the Jaguars. There are a few teams ranked ahead of the Jaguars, that in my estimation, have no place being ahead of us on a list like this. Tampa, Cleveland, Washington, and the New York Jets are all ranked ahead of the Jaguars, yet they all have much bigger holes on their rosters than do the Jags. It seems to me the Jaguars should be ranked somewhere in the mid 20's not 30. What do you think? Leave your comments below. Here is King's full power rankings article On Monday, June 1st, Peter King released his off season power rankings. He ranked the Jaguars as the 30th best team in the NFL, which means that he has only two teams ranked lower. Here is what he had to say:
