Tuesday morning, following a Monday in which the Jaguars announced Doug Marrone would be interim head coach, the Jaguars made their first roster move of the post Gus Bradley era. They've added Marcus Rush from the 49ers practice squad. Rush is a "linebacker" that fittingly projects more as a pass rusher than a true 4-3 outside linebacker for the Jaguars. Rush is only 25 years old and stands 6'2'' and weighs in at around 245 lbs.
Rush played his college ball at Michigan State from 2011-2014, where he recorded 18.5 sacks, 37.5 tackles for loss, and 4 forced fumbles. A productive college player that lacked the ideal size and athleticism to merrit a high pick in the NFL Draft, Rush went undrafted. Following the ankle injury to Jermiah Poutasi and subsequent move to the injured reserve, the Jaguars had a roster spot to fill, and those chose to do so with a player who they believe may be able to have an impact in the pass rush moving forward. Rush recorded six sacks in the 2016 preseason. Stay tuned for more!
