The injury bug has hit the Jaguars hard at the beginning of 2016 OTAs.
The obvious and most concerning injury is Jalen Ramsey’s partially torn meniscus. While Ramsey is one of the most valuable players on the team moving forward, it seems that his injury is relatively minor and he should be back on the field sometime during training camp. The Jaguars denied rumors this morning that Jalen Ramsey had a micro fracture surgery in high school, stating that his procedure in high school was simply to repair some cartilage. News came out today that offensive lineman Luke Bowanko will also require hip surgery and has a torn labrum. While the injury isn't career threatening for the Jaguars young offensive lineman, the injuries will certainly hurt his chances of having an impactful 2016 campaign. Bowanko was in a competition for the starting center position last offseason and can play multiple positions along the offensive line, so this injury certainly hurts the Jaguars depth. Also on the injury front, the Jaguars 7th round pick Jonathan Woodward suffered an achilles injury that will likely sideline him for his entire rookie season. The injury was sustained during the rookie portion of OTAs. Woodward was a long shot to make the team and likely wouldn't have seen the field at all in 2016. Tight end Nic Jacobs suffered a broken finger, but it appears he will not miss time. Injures happen in football, but for two straight first round picks to go down before the start of their rookie training camps is quite disconcerting. While these injuries are troublesome, Jags fans can find solace in the fact that last years first round pick, Dante Fowler, is good to go! |
