The Jaguars were busy on the first two days of the draft. In the first round they selected powerhouse running back Leonard Fournette. On the second day of the draft they were able to trade up a spot to secure their favorite offensive lineman Cam Robinson, who will help not only pave the way for Fournette, but should help Blake Bortles as well. In the third round the Jaguars addressed pass rush with a guy who was projected to be a first or second round pick entering 2016 - Dawuane Smoot had a somewhat disappointing final campaign in college, but shows the traits the Jaguars like in an edge rusher. Now, the Jaguars still have several needs to address.
1. OG - Many believed that if the Jaguars drafted Cam Robinson he would start his career at guard, but Dave Caldwell put that notion to bed last night after the team drafted him. Robinson will play left tackle. That means the Jaguars still need to address guard. Look for the Jaguars to perhaps select a player like Dorian Johnson at the top of the fourth round. 2. TE - The Jaguars may actually be better prepared to enter the season at the guard position than they are at tight end, BUTT there should be plenty of quality tight ends for the Jaguars to choose from on day three. Look for guys like Jake BUTT, Bucky Hodges, and Jordan Leggett to come off the board. (Sorry, had to do the BUTT jokes) 3. CB - The Jaguars have an elite group of starting cornerbacks with Jalen Ramsey and AJ Bouye on the outside and Aaron Colvin manning the slot, but Colvin is on the final year of his deal and has little depth behind him. The Jaguars would be wise to address corner and some point on day three. Don't be surprised if it's the diminutive Miami star Corn Elder for the Jaguars in the fourth or fifth round. |
